YouTube Lets You Create GIFs From Videos
Mary Gutierrez | @MaryyAlyssa
Everyone loves watching GIFs! For those who don’t know, GIFs are animated clips that loop continuously. Many businesses use outside programs and websites to create them, but now there’s no need for an external source! YouTube now allows users to make GIFs from YouTube videos with a new, built-in tool. Because this tool is still new, however, users can only use the feature in the PBS Idea Channel.
The tool is very simple to use. First, under the video press the “Share” button. You’ll see the “GIF” option that will get you started. After clicking “GIF” you can choose any clip of the video that you want for the animated GIF. You can only choose six different clips, but you also have the option to add text. After you’re done creating your own GIF, click “Create GIF” to finalize it.
So, why are GIFs so important? Well, besides the fact that some are hilarious, they also are a great way to help your business. Here are a few ways how:
- Increase Brand Awareness: GIFs don’t have to be complex. They can be silly or something fun that will make your brand or business stand out. Pairing GIFs with social media sites, such as Twitter, also helps increase the amount of engagement. A great example is this Wendy’s GIF.
- Show Off: A picture may be worth a thousand words, but GIFs bring life to your product! Show off your product in a creative way by using GIFs. This could be a how-to or one that shows the benefits of your product. A great example is this Bud Light GIF.
- Go Behind the Scenes: Showing a sneak peek or more about the company culture is a great way to use GIFs. This could be showing a process of how the product is made or just clips of fun reactions that are relevant to your business. A great example is this fun GIF from Hootsuite’s Twitter account.
There’s so much you can do with GIFs and now you have the tools to make your own.
