Peach is one of the first new social apps of 2016, premiering last Friday for iOS.

This app, created by Vine co-founder Dom Hofmann, provides a new form of interaction between users, via “magic words” which act as commands. Just type the action and select the bubble that pops up. Peach currently has 20 commands, from a standard “time” to a more unusual “dice” - in case rolling the dice is vital to your day.

Aside from this feature, Peach is a bit of a Frankenstein’s monster, with elements from major social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. Users can set statuses and share pictures and GIFs, however unlike most social media, there is no way to directly message someone.

Peach keeps things light with actions such as “Boop,” “Hiss” and “Put a ring on it” available to users. It expands the use of emoticons beyond “happy” and “sad”.

This creates a more open environment: in Peach, everyone is connected and everyone can see other what other users put up.

Tech crunch writer Drew Olanoff recommends to keep things simple and avoid going on a friending spree. Quality is the deciding factor when using Peach, and it keeps users from being bombarded and overwhelmed with information.

A reason to pick up Peach is the inclusiveness. It lets users search for pictures and GIFs without having to exit the app, streamlining the posting experience.

Just three days old, and Peach already has an entertainment company on board:

All the business and marketing possibilities with Peach remain to be seen, but it has potential. Like all social media, Peach can let a company share their brand with a personal touch.

What Peach succeeded with was bringing fresh ideas. We may be seeing an easier way to post GIFs on Twitter, and a more engrossing Facebook Messenger in the future.
