What Klout Analytics Can Tell You

By Ashleigh Cue | @Eucacue

Analyzing social media engagement is important for any business. The more engaged your social media followers are, the more people you will reach. Several social media platforms have their own analytic tools, but there are other great tools that can help. Klout, which is known for measuring your social media “popularity,” has its own analytical tool. Klout analytics sift through more than 12 billion “signals” a day, more than 400 signals on each different social media platform. These measurements are used daily to determine your Klout score. Klout’s analytics provide you some data that can help you improve your social media influence.

What Does Klout Measure?

Klout, itself, analyzes mentions, retweets, likes, followers, friends, and more in order to provide an accurate Klout score. The more social media linked to Klout, the more signals and data it can analyze and you can see. Klout allows you to link multiple different social media platforms to your Klout account. While not all of these social media platforms are necessarily analyzed to calculate your score, the majority of them are. Klout, currently, does not provide analytical data to you for all the social media platforms used to calculate your score. The major platforms that Klout provides data for is Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Klout, Google+ and Foursquare.

The Actual Klout Analytics

Of course the first analytics that Klout shows you is your Klout score for the past 90 days. It will also show you your highest and lowest score within that time period. However, the most interesting analytics is on the actual social media platforms. Klout tells you exactly what social media platform is contributing most to your score. This is done using percentage, so what percent of your score is based on that social platform. Klout also shows you what recent social media updates are contributing to your Klout score. These updates are rated on a 1-5 scale. Not all platforms may show you what social media updates contributed the most to your score. Also, it may take up to two days for your social media updates to appear under the recent activity. Klout does not show you all the updates contributing to your score, but it still can give you an idea on what updates are more influential.

Why Does This Data Matter?

Knowing what platforms and what types of social media updates are contributing the most to your Klout score can provide more data than just how it affects your score. Your Klout score is based on how influential you are on social media and how your followers interact with you contributes to your score. Two examples of key data that Klout measures is: how long after the update did the interaction occur and the type of interaction. So if your Klout score is high, then your followers are interacting more with your updates and they are doing so fairly fast. For businesses and marketers, this social media tool can help by providing a glimpse of what social media platforms are garnering the most engagement and what types of content are the most engaging. Klout’s ability to measure, rank and see engagement across multiple platforms makes it a great tool for businesses, especially for smaller businesses.
